With 2010 coming to an end, I took a stab at pulling together some of the major trends which from my perspective will shape and transform the corporate environment in 2011 and during the remainder of the decade. 

Despite the lingering effects of the recession – at least in the United States and Europe – we live in a time of transformation which is having an effect on many aspects of our lives, and is beginning to fundamentally transform whole areas of business.  Just look at what’s going on in areas such as telecommunications, healthcare, education, and retail, to name just a few.   

Technology is driving and enabling most of this change; it is transforming the way we communicate, obtain and distribute information.  Environmental challenges are fundamentally changing our energy and transportation infrastructure.

Global economic and political dominance is beginning to shift from the US to Asia; the Asian economies, particularly China and India, are increasingly leading the global economy.  The so-called developed world – the US, Europe and Japan – are saddled with debt, and appear to face political gridlock, and are falling behind in critical areas such as innovation and R&D.
